A proper full remodel

Gut it properly. Build it once. Walk away clean.

A full bathroom remodel isn't a cosmetic refresh. It's a demolition, a new plumbing rough-in, new framing as needed, waterproofing, tile, fixtures, and trim — all sequenced so the finish work actually lasts. Done right on a Long Island hall bath, a full remodel takes 3–4 weeks and outlives its installers.

Most Long Island bathrooms we remodel were built in the 1950s–1990s. Cast iron drains, galvanized supply lines, cement-board-behind-tile with no real waterproofing. We strip all of that out, replace drain stacks with PVC, supply with PEX, waterproof with Schluter Kerdi or Kerdi-Board, and rebuild the room from the subfloor up.

We don't pack three projects and run between them. One Island Bath crew lives in your house from demo day to final walkthrough. Your project manager texts photo updates every evening. Firm number in the contract — no change-order theater.

See all of our Long Island bathroom renovation services — from full gut remodels to accessible baths, tub-to-shower conversions, and master suite builds across Nassau and Suffolk County.

Our Process

How the project actually runs.

No mystery. No surprise delays. Here's the exact sequence.

01

On-site walk

Angela or a project manager walks your bathroom, measures, reviews layout options, talks scope and tile preferences.

02

Firm quote

Itemized, firm, 48-hour turnaround. Every line item, every material brand, every labor cost spelled out.

03

Build week

Permit pulled, demo day scheduled, one crew moves in. Daily photo updates. Floor protection every day.

04

Final walk

Inspection signed off, punch list completed, grout sealed, caulk cured. We don't leave until the last tile is perfect.

Materials We Trust

The brands and systems we spec.

We only install systems we can stand behind for twenty years. No brand bait-and-switch mid-job.

Premium bathroom materials

Schluter-Systems Kerdi / Kerdi-Board

Sheet-membrane waterproofing for walls and pan. We're Schluter-Certified installers. Industry-standard life-of-bathroom waterproof layer.

Schluter Ditra

Uncoupling membrane under every tile floor. Stops subfloor movement from cracking grout or tile.

Kohler, TOTO, Delta, Moen

Fixtures and valves with parts availability and solid warranty. No big-box mystery brands.

Porcelain tile: Daltile, Marazzi, Florida Tile

Large-format porcelain (12x24, 24x24, 24x48) plus mosaic accents. Samples on-site before the order.

PEX supply + PVC drain

Modern plumbing that won't scale or corrode like 60-year-old galvanized. Permit-friendly with NY code.

Quartz counters: Cambria, Caesarstone, MSI Q

Non-porous, no sealing, built for moisture. Undermount sinks installed with proper silicone gaskets.

Worth knowing first

Things most contractors won't tell you.

Your joist bay matters

Heavy tile floors (big-format porcelain, especially stone) need a subfloor stiffer than code. We check deflection on day one and sister joists before tile goes down if needed. Skipping this step is why tile floors crack two winters later.

Waterproofing is not caulk

Caulk and grout fail within a few years. The waterproof layer under the tile is what actually keeps water out of your framing. We spec Schluter sheet membrane on every shower. No paint-on 'waterproofing', no mesh-tape-at-corners shortcuts.

Permits are worth pulling

For plumbing or electrical work in Nassau or Suffolk, a permit protects you — inspected work means clean disclosure when you sell, and known-good hidden infrastructure. We handle the paperwork.

Layout changes = big-time cost lever

Moving the toilet 8 inches means cutting into the subfloor and rerouting a 3-inch drain. We'll always tell you whether a layout change is worth the cost. Sometimes it is. Often it isn't.

What homeowners say

Reviews from bathroom remodel clients.

Angela's team gutted our 1970s hall bath and turned it into a spa. Zero-threshold shower, Schluter waterproofing, linear drain, perfect tile lines. They hit the schedule and stayed on budget.

Jennifer M.

Hicksville, NY · Full Remodel

Small hall bath felt three times larger when they finished. Floating vanity, 12x24 large-format tile up the wall, frameless glass. Quoted three, they came in on the low end.

Questions

Most-asked about bathroom remodel.

Most Long Island hall baths take 3–4 weeks demo-to-walkthrough. Master baths with plumbing relocations or custom tile run 4–6 weeks. We dedicate one crew to your project.

Yes. Island Bath Studio pulls the permit, schedules inspections, and submits the drawings. Your only role is approving the scope.

Yes, unless it's your only bathroom. We install dust containment, protect floors, and keep utility shutoffs to predictable windows you can plan around.

Very common on 1950s–1970s Long Island baths. Our contract includes an allowance for hidden conditions. If we find framing rot or mold, we show you the photos, explain the fix, and document the added cost before doing the work.

Angela is an NKBA Certified Bath Designer — design is included with every full remodel. We walk your bathroom, review inspiration images, and hand you a design package with layout, tile selections, and fixture spec within a week.

We don't use rotating subs. Our plumber and electrician are licensed in both Nassau and Suffolk and work with Island Bath on every job. Same faces in your house every day.

Nassau County bathroom remodel costs run slightly above the national average due to higher labor rates and permit fees. A hall bath full gut-and-rebuild — PVC drain, PEX supply, Schluter waterproofing, tile, vanity, toilet, fixture — typically costs $11,000–$24,000 depending on tile grade. A master bath renovation with walk-in shower, double vanity, heated floor, and no major plumbing relocation runs $26,000–$55,000. If you're relocating the toilet or tub, add $4,000–$8,000 for the subfloor work and drain reroute. We break every line item in writing before you sign.

Yes — if your project involves moving any plumbing (toilet, drain, supply lines), upgrading electrical (GFCI, new circuit for a heated floor or exhaust fan), or structural work (enlarging the bathroom, moving a wall). Nassau County and Suffolk County both require a Home Improvement Contractor license and a building permit for these scopes. Cosmetic work — replacing a vanity in place, swapping fixtures without moving pipes, installing new tile over existing backer — can often be done without a permit. We tell you exactly which category your project falls in at the estimate appointment. We pull all permits ourselves.

Porcelain tile is the top choice for Long Island bathrooms because it's completely non-porous and unaffected by the seasonal humidity swings we get from June through September. Large-format porcelain (12×24 or 24×24) is especially popular right now — fewer grout lines, easier to clean, and reads upscale. For floors we use a slip-rated porcelain or textured mosaic to meet code. Natural stone (marble, travertine) is beautiful but needs sealing every 1–3 years in a shower environment. We install it with proper penetrating sealer and give you a maintenance schedule if you go that route. The non-negotiable for any Long Island bathroom: a properly sized humidity-sensing exhaust fan. Timers shut off too early and leave moisture in the walls. We spec humidity sensors on every project.

Suffolk County NY

Bathroom Remodel Suffolk County — Town by Town

A bathroom remodel in Suffolk County NYinvolves more than just picking tile. Each of Suffolk County's six western towns — Islip, Babylon, Huntington, Smithtown, Brookhaven, and Southold — has its own building department, permit process, and inspection schedule. Our crew navigates all of them, pulling permits under our Suffolk County Home Improvement Contractor license and managing every inspection through final sign-off.

Here is what homeowners in each town should know before starting a bathroom remodel in Suffolk County:

Town of Islip

Islip bathrooms — Bay Shore, East Islip, West Islip, Bohemia, Brentwood — are frequently on slab foundations or with low crawl space clearance, which makes drain rerouting more labor-intensive. Permit fees in Islip run $150–$300 for a standard bathroom remodel. Typical full-gut cost: $16,000–$32,000.

Town of Babylon

Babylon homes (West Babylon, North Babylon, Lindenhurst, Deer Park, Copiague) were largely built 1950s–1970s with galvanized supply lines. We replace galvanized with PEX on every full remodel. Town of Babylon permit processing averages 5–10 business days. Typical remodel cost: $14,000–$30,000.

Town of Huntington

Huntington township (Commack, Dix Hills, East Northport, Melville, Northport) has a busy building department — plan on 10–15 business days for permit issuance. Cast iron waste stacks and two-pipe steam heating systems are common in older Huntington homes and must be coordinated around. Typical cost: $17,000–$38,000.

Town of Smithtown

Smithtown (Kings Park, Hauppauge, Nesconset, St. James) homes range from 1950s ranches to 1990s colonials. The building department is known for straightforward permit reviews. Most full bathroom remodels in Smithtown receive permits within 7–10 days. Typical cost: $15,000–$33,000.

Town of Brookhaven

Brookhaven is Suffolk's largest town by area — covering Patchogue, Ronkonkoma, Lake Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson, and Stony Brook. Many Brookhaven homes are on septic, so we specify WaterSense low-flow fixtures as standard. Permit fees vary by hamlet. Typical remodel cost: $15,000–$35,000.

Town of Southold

Southold (Greenport, Mattituck, Cutchogue, Southold Village) is North Fork wine country — many homes are second residences or historic properties. Work scheduling must account for seasonal access. Southold building permits for bathroom work typically take 2–3 weeks. Typical cost: $18,000–$40,000.

Bathroom remodel permits in Suffolk County

Any bathroom remodel in Suffolk County NY that involves moving plumbing, adding electrical circuits (heated floors, new exhaust fan wiring), or structural changes requires a building permit from the applicable town building department. Cosmetic-only work — swapping a vanity in place, new tile over existing backer — typically does not. We assess permit requirements at your free on-site estimate and pull all permits ourselves. You never have to deal with the building department.

Guest Bath (Suffolk County)

$8,000–$18,000

Vanity, toilet, tile, fixtures. Same footprint. No plumbing relocation.

Full Gut Remodel (Suffolk)

$14,000–$33,000

Down to studs. PVC drain, PEX supply, Schluter waterproofing, full tile, permit.

Master Bath (Suffolk County)

$28,000–$60,000+

Walk-in shower, double vanity, heated floor, layout changes if needed.
